the garage doors need to be replaced, one door snapped and came down on my grandson hitting him across his kidneys. but the landlord just came and put small pad locks on the outside of the doors and handed me the keys. I have even asked for them to use my deposit to put screens in or towards new garage doors. but the only thing I recieved was a registored letter telling me my rent has went up 150.00 more.
what would you do if you were me. Ive never been late or behind on my rent . ThanksLandlord say screens and garage doors are a luxury and the house has none?
Move................Landlord say screens and garage doors are a luxury and the house has none?
I would move. The landlord obviously doesn't want to spend any money on the place and you are going to be a pain is his/her behind. A $150 rent raise means, in landlord-speak, ';Get out!';
did you sign anything? if not just leave. if you did you could probably prove they aren't living up to their end of the deal and still get out
Wake Up!! Time to move.
First of all, if it is a dangerous situation - such as a door falling down, I hope you are documenting all of the times you have talked to the landlord and all the times something goes wrong.
You need to call the housing comission in your state - just go to the state website for your state and look up housing. I would make an appointment and actually go in if you can. Type up in a clear and short manner exactly what has happened:
-may 18, door fell hurting Mathew
may 19, called landlord at 6pm
Etc.
The screens surprise me, I would assume that he doesn't want the house infested with bugs and rodents. That is also a health problem. Mention to him about West Nile virus and that he doesn't want to have to pay for medical bills, does he.
Seriously, sometimes you have to get mean on your landlord - I did. Think of it this way, you are paying for a product. He is YOUR customer, not the other way around. Would you pay for a half eaten hamburger at McDonalds? NO!
You have reason to break your lease if the property is not safe or is unhealthy - I believe both of these things apply here. Take pictures, document everything - even if you have to think back to do it, and go to the housing comission, if that doesn't work, go to small claims court to get out of your lease, and move!
