So, you call your landlord a slum lord, but you left trash in the apartment and a big screen TV for him to get rid of. Why do landlords have a bad name, but yet tenants can leave them with a bunch of their junk and garbage that they have to figure out how to get rid of? I am not surprised that she kept your deposit, was she supposed to give you the whole thing back, and pay to get rid of the stuff you left her out of her own pocket? Also, the apartment couldn't have been that horrible if she already rented it to someone else before you were even finished moving out. What can a land lord do to me legally if I left trash and a big screen tv in the house and moved?
You know that your deposit was more than the cost of the trash and tv. But it probably made her mad that she had to haul your stuff. She might pay $35 in Small Claims Court to get a judgement against you. That wouldn't be fair. If you get a notice from a court, don't throw it away. Attend the hearing and explain about the tv. Then you will win.
IF the deposit did not cover any rents owed , removal of the trash and tv ; then they can take you to small claims court ...
The court will most likely order YOU to pay whatever damages the landlord can prove with receipts from whoever did the hauling ect ....
They will charge you for storage of the items. labor to remove it and the charge of disposal.
It will cost you a ton, no matter if you hate the landlord or not. It doesn't give you the right to trash there property!
If your lucky she'll store your TV and you can just pay the storage fee to get it back. You'll be charged the cost of trash removal.
sue you, she probably took pics %26amp; kept or sold your big screen. If you left tv behind it is hers, unless she will give it back.
