Do I need to worry about old house wiring with a new big-screen TV?

We have a 50 year-old house. If we get a big plasma TV for the wall do we need to get something like a surge protector?





A couple of years ago the power went out. When it came on a TV blew out.





If we need a surge protector, is there a specific type? We have NO grounded outlet in the bedroom where the TV will go.

If I were you, I think I'd spend the $$ on an electrical contractor to get the home electrical wiring brought up to spec before I'd spend for a luxury item like a big plasma TV... which, by the way, are notorious energy hogs.





Lack of a plasma TV has never killed anyone that I am aware of. electrocution and electrical fires have.
