Well, concidering how you're asking for AN LCD NOT A PLASMA, I'll go ahead and answer your question. Sony's Bravia XBR series is concidered by many to be one of the best (if not the best) line of LCD tvs on the planet. But of course, it doesn't come without a price. THey're pretty expensive, but will give you amazing picture quality. Samsung also makes VERY nice LCD tvs. I would rank the best LCD makers as follows;

If I had been asked this a couple of years ago I would have said Sony hands down but there have been some changes in my position. It may be apples and oranges but the technology is about the same. I bought a SAMSUNG wide screen 22 inch monitor, model SyncMaster 226BW for my desktop system. It is clear, bright, with good contrast and no lost pixels so far. I won't recommend them directly but I would suggest you have a look at the upper end models in the SAMSUNG line up.





BTW I concur with the answer suggesting Plasma over LCD, especially in the larger screen sizes. In addition I will recommend you check the prices at Best Buy before you part with your money. I have found them to have the best value pricing in my area.
